Pvt. Fun grew up in Toronto with a gift for making people laugh and a deep, private need for their approval. He wanted to be a comedian. A real one. The big stage, the roar of the crowd, the feeling that he was the reason everyone in the room was smiling.
He poured everything he had into a book of jokes he had spent two years writing. He self-published it, and he sold eleven copies. Eight were to family members. The remaining three he has never accounted for, and suspects were mistakes.
He kept going, convinced the right break was coming, taking every gig he could find and burning through his savings, his relationships, and eventually his health. The burnout arrived quietly on a Tuesday, after a show that went well. He went home to an empty flat, sat on the floor, and realised that the crowd's laughter had never once made him feel less alone.
