The Logbook story
Story
Lobster Bob has been everywhere, and he will tell you the lesson is always the same: the world is your classroom. He guides the tours, keeps the fleet, and writes it all down in a logbook bound by hand in a shop in Caracas that has been there since before he was born.
Each of Lobster Bob's failures became a rule, one for each track. He corrected an elder's navigation and the sea spent two days correcting him. He called a tired crew weak and learned he was the one who was wrong. He packed for sun in the Andes. He rushed the tide at Fundy. Every mistake made the guide better.
He writes the logbook. He keeps the fleet: La Mula LAM-001-VE, Nellie PZ 1953 N and El Condor YV-528.
He visits Hernan's bindery in Caracas four times a year, and has done for seventeen years.
