The Logbook story
Story
Lobster Bob has been everywhere, and he will tell you the lesson is always the same: the world is your classroom. He guides the tours, keeps the fleet, and writes it all down in a logbook bound by hand in a shop in Caracas that has been there since before he was born.

The wrong kind of authority
Lobster Bob was leading a tour in La Mula across a remote coastal region when he spotted a local elder using a traditional navigation method he had never seen before. Lobster Bob interrupted. He explained, loudly and with considerable confidence, that his modern navigation knowledge was superior. So he led the group. They got hopelessly lost for six hours in terrain the elder had been navigating since childhood. The elder found them eventually, said nothing, and led them back in forty minutes.

The boat over the man
Lobster Bob kept Nellie immaculate. Every surface cleaned, every piece of equipment maintained, every rope coiled to exact specification. His personal hygiene was another matter entirely. The persistent fishy odour that became his trademark was not, it turned out, charming. A tour group politely but clearly explained that arriving at cultural sites smelling of lobster was disrespectful to the very communities he was asking them to respect. He had been teaching cultural literacy while ignoring the most basic form of it.

The ignored warning
Lobster Bob had taken El Cóndor up for a coastal tour when a local fisherman warned him about a sudden tidal change coming. Lobster Bob took one look at the man's boat, his equipment, and his age, and decided his own experience outweighed the warning. The tide changed. The situation turned dangerous fast. His passengers were shaken. Nobody was seriously hurt, but it was close. The fisherman who had warned him watched from the shore, said nothing, and went back to work.
The Passport

Lobster Bob organised a Pro-Am scenic tour combining shark feeding with close viewing, no safety cage, in front of a group from a retirement home. He had done it before. He believed his experience made the risk manageable. Three heart attacks, a major legal case, and a near-death experience later, he was back in Los Roques, humbled in a way nothing else had ever managed. For the first time in his life he understood that admitting he was wrong was not weakness. It was wisdom.
He checks Nellie, El Cóndor, and La Mula before any tour, every single time.
He uses the phrase "too many times to mention" at least once in every session.
He asks a question before giving an answer, every time, without exception.
He shares one story of his own failure with every new group of children.
He ends every tour with "Did you know..." followed by a piece of obscure global trivia.
He never describes a destination as conquered. Only visited.
